Lyrics
[Verse 1]
The hammer falls, the iron cold and grey
Beneath the shadow of a dying day
They raise the wood against a bleeding sky
While angels weep to see the Savior die
No curse is heard, no words of bitter hate
Only the breath of love to seal our fate.
[Pre-Chorus]
Every drop of blood is a river of grace
Looking down with mercy on a fallen race
In the heart of agony, in the heat of pain
You broke the silence and the heavy chain.
[Chorus]
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!” (Luke 23:34)
Let Your mercy rain, making all things new
From the heights of glory to the dust of the ground
Where sin was abundant, let Your grace abound!
Father, forgive them... the love that has no end.
[Verse 2]
The soldiers gamble for a seamless robe
While darkness falls across the trembling globe
You saw the faces of the ones who turned away
Yet for their souls, You bowed Your head to pray
A love so deep, a height we cannot scan
The perfect bridge for every broken man.
[Bridge]
Who can measure this compassion?
Who can fathom such a heart?
When the world was at its darkest
Grace became a work of art!
You didn't call the lightning down!
You didn't take the thorny crown...
OFF! You chose to stay!
To wash our crimson sins away!
[Climax]
OH! THE DEPTH OF THE LOVE!
THE PRAYER FROM THE CROSS!
YOU TRADED THE HEAVENS
TO REDEEM EVERY LOSS!
FATHER, FORGIVE THEM!
IT’S WRITTEN IN BLOOD!
A FOUNTAIN OF MERCY, A HEAVENLY FLOOD!
[Guitar Solo
[Final Chorus]
(Grand and majestic, gospel choir joins for the final anthem)
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!”
Let Your mercy rain, making all things new
From the heights of glory to the dust of the ground
Where sin was abundant, let Your grace abound!
[Outro]
They knew not what they did...
But You knew why You died...
Love is satisfied.
Forgiven... Forgiven...
